The benefits of massage have been recognised for many thousands of years. The earliest records date to China in 2700BC and massage was practised by many other ancient cultures including Indian, Egyptian, Greek & Roman.
In the 18th & 19th centuries massage became popular in Europe with Swedish Massage under the influence of Per Henrik Ling . Captain Cook recorded how massage he received in Tahiti cured his sciatic pain and massage was used extensively in World War I for shell-shock and nerve injury. It was the foundation of what is now known as Physiotherapy.
