Complementary therapy ante-natal classes

As a team of complementary therapists practising together at the Sevenoaks Osteopathic Practice we recognised a need to educate couples expecting a baby in how our therapies can help to minimise discomfort and complications during this period of pregnancy as well as facilitate the process of labour and to provide some understanding of the baby's emotional development in the period after birth. Unfortunately we often see patients at late stages of their pregnancy after significant periods of discomfort have been experienced. This is an opportunity to broaden your understanding of how these therapies can help you earlier on in your pregnancy. You will also take away practical information and techniques that you can use in your pregnancy, birth and postnatal period.

The course will comprise of two evening workshops. They will be held on the first two Tuesdays of the month from 7.45pm to 9.45pm. The workshop will involve the following practitioners, an Osteopath, Homeopath, Acupuncturist, Nutritionist and a Midwife trained specifically in ante- natal yoga / active birth techniques. You can visit their individual pages to read about their qualifications and about what they offer on the course.

The first evening will involve a discussion on the anatomy that is involved during pregnancy , injuries that can occur and how to avoid them. The Osteopath and Active Birth instructor will discuss why it is important to acheive opimal foetal positioning and how this can be done. You will learn that being active means taking control of your pregnancy and the course will give you some of the tools that will help with this.

The second evening will involve further practical advice on how to optimise your pregnancy through Nutrition and Homeopathy. The Acupuncturist will describe how and why acupressure can help with different conditions at different times of the pregnancy. They will show and tell you how to help yourself when faced with particular circumstances.

You will take written handouts home from the course. We will limit the numbers to eight people on each course, as we hope the evenings will be relaxed and encourage discussion. We welcome both mothers and partners. This course is not designed to replace the hospital run or NCT antenatal courses but will provide mothers and fathers with additional information about a complementary therapist view of pregnancy, labour and the early period after childbirth.
