50th BIRTHDAY. 2009 was the 50th anniversary for Sevenoaks Osteopaths. The practice was started in 1959 by Richard Pitcairn-Knowles on Tubs Hill. He then shared premises with what is now Sevenoaks Podiatrists, before moving to the present site in 1972.

In the early days of the 1960's and 70's Osteopaths were relatively rare! The nearest to Sevenoaks being Tunbridge wells, Maidstone and Bromley. Richard became very busy as at the time he was able to offer something quite different to what the GP's and Physiotherapists were offering afor treatment. It is a reflection on the success that he and the other pioneers of Osteopathy had, that the profession grew rapidly through the 70's onwards and physiotherapists began to adopt Osteopathic techniques and ideas.

Mark Pitcairn-Knowles joined the practice in 1990 and took over the running of the clinic in 1998 before Richard retired in 2000. Since 1998 the clinic has diversified to encompass other practitioners that complement the Osteopathy. These days there are approximately 15 Osteopaths practising in the local area of Sevenoaks, this must reflect well on the reputation and regard for Osteopathy that Sevenoaks Osteopaths began in 1959. We are planning some events this year to celebrate the anniversary and publicise these when they are confirmed.
