Mrs Brenda Smit­­­­h is a Registered Dietitian, who qualified from Kings College London with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics in 2009.   She was awarded a Post Graduate Diploma in Allergy from Southampton University in November 2018 and qualified as a Mindful Eating Instructor from MB-EAT in 2020.  Previous to dietetics she worked in finance.

Brenda has practiced as specialist gastroenterology dietitian and lead specialist weight management dietitian for NHS services.  She has worked privately with adult and adolescent mental health disorders, including experience with eating disorders and has attended training in Advanced Dietetics in Eating Disorders; CBT-Eating Disorders; Self-Guided Help; Emotional Coaching for Carers and ARFID for Dietitians – A Responsive Feeding Therapy Approach.

Brenda began full-time private practice from May 2018; seeing infants, children, young persons and adults. Whilst working for NHS services, Brenda was recognised for her evidence based and effective practice; twice nominated for patient excellence and showcased on effectiveness to other health professionals and the Clinical Care and Quality Commission. Brenda provides a range of dietary treatments and welcomes working alongside new or existing health professionals to provide holistic care.

Dietary interventions related to the gut include:  irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) which can be caused by lactose intolerance, fructose, some or all FODMAPs or other intolerances caused by natural food chemicals (that can mimic allergy) such as histamine, salicylates and benzoates, multiple allergies including Cow’s Milk Allergy (both IgE and Non-IgE), coeliac and other disease such as Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis (Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Liver Disease, Pancreatitis and post-surgery ileostomy/colostomy, high out-put and short bowel syndrome.

Dietary interventions related to Eating disorders include, Anorexia Nervosa (AN), Bulimia Nervosa (BN), Non-Other Specified (NOS), Binge Eating (BED) and differentiating between Avoidance Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) and fussy eating:  dietary assessment (including refeeding risk) and appropriate support for weight.

Dietary interventions related to other health and weight management include:  menopausal, acne, weight loss, cholesterol, gout, pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes (and reversal), polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and high blood pressure.

Brenda is registered with the Health and Care Professional Council and the British Dietetic Association, including their specialist groups of Allergy, Gastroenterology, Mental Health, Obesity and Freelance.

Brenda is also registered with a number of private health insurance companies, including Allianz Worldwide Care, Aviva, Axa PPP Healthcare, BUPA, Cigna, WPA and Vitality Health.

Apart from clinical work, Brenda is a wife and mum of two, who enjoys learning about other cultures and keeping active.
