In today’s fast paced world it’s easy to neglect your health. Everyday worries and frustrations can take their toll on your health and well-being and it is thought that around 75% of all illnesses are stress-related. Reflexology is a wonderfully relaxing complementary therapy that works to relieve the effects of stress and encourage the body to heal by improving the functioning of the immune system, encouraging better circulation, boosting energy levels, reducing pain and inflammation, clearing toxins from the body and balancing the hormones.
It works on the principle that each organ or part of the body is represented by reflex points on the feet and hands. By using a technique of applying gentle pressure or massage to these reflexes, a reflexologist may help to stimulate a response or reaction in the corresponding part of the body allowing the body to begin the healing process.
Reflexology is a safe, natural therapy that is suitable for all ages. As it works on all systems of the body it can be beneficial to:-
- Sleep disorders
- Ear, nose & throat conditions
- Respiratory conditions
- Digestive disorders
- Circulation conditions
- Low immunity to coughs/colds
- Muscle strains/joint pain
- Skin disorders
- Thyroid disorders
- Hormonal imbalances
- Fertility issues
- …& many more
Hot Stone Reflexology is the use of heated Basalt stones to stimulate reflex points on the feet. The warmth and subtle energies of the stones calm the senses and enhance the traditional Reflexology treatment by deeply relaxing sore and tight muscles, stimulating the reflexes and improving circulation. The treatment also includes a soothing calf muscle massage.
Please note: If you have Rheumatoid arthritis, Osteo-arthritis or a skin condition where inflammation is present, I will need to avoid those areas with the hot stones. In addition if you have vein or nerve damage in the legs, or are elderly with very thin skin, I will need to avoid using the stones on your lower legs but I can still use them on your feet. Treatments will be adapted accordingly. Hot Stone Reflexology is not recommended for first trimester of pregnancy (although it can be used safely in the second and third trimesters), during IVF treatments or for anyone who has heart disease/high blood pressure that is not controlled by medication.
Indian head massage originated in India over 1000 years ago and began as a way of keeping the hair in good condition. This form of massage works on the upper back, shoulders, upper arms, neck, scalp, ears and face. The areas are massaged using firm yet gentle, rhythmic movements that involve acupressure points. It is a wonderful treatment to relieve muscle tension and calm the mind. Indian head massage can be used to:-
- relieve eyestrain
- relieve sleep disorders
- ease headaches and migraine
- relax muscles and break down ‘knots’
- relieve conditions affecting the head, ears, nose & throat
- reduce stress/anxiety
- stimulate and reinvigorate the mind
Some therapists use oils but I practice the Western Indian Head Massage which is a dry treatment and no oils are used. During the massage, you will remain seated and fully clothed (only jackets, ties, jumpers & jewellery need to be removed).
Reflexology is available at the clinic every Wednesday from 2pm until 8pm, every Friday from 2pm until 6pm and on alternate Saturdays between 9am and 2pm. There are several different treatment options to choose from – please see below for details and the cost of each individual treatment.
