Clinical Psychology

Psychotherapy is sometimes called ‘the talking cure’.  It is a form of psychological treatment that helps the adult to deal with their problems by gaining a better understanding of themselves, of the way they live their lives, and especially of the way they relate to others.  It is concerned with the whole person – their life history, their past and present relationships, and conscious and unconscious mental processes within themselves.  Through the relationship with the therapist self-discovery, change and growth become possible.  It is often a slow process that takes time and needs regular sessions.

A separate Child Psychology service is provided at Springbank Clinic. Most families occasionally experience times where parenting seems to be more stressful and challenging. Similarly most children and young people at times face issues which seem particularly difficult to deal with. However, for some families these problems begin to interfere with everyday life and become so stressful that they feel they may benefit from outside help and support.
